Argentina's Central Bank to Issue New 10,000 and 20,000 Peso Bills

Tackling Inflation with Higher Denominations

Amidst escalating inflation, the Central Bank of the Argentine Republic (BCRA) has announced the issuance of new 10,000 and 20,000 peso banknotes. This move aims to streamline financial transactions and address the challenges posed by the increasing value of goods and services.

Details of the New Bills

The 10,000 peso bill will feature the portraits of Manuel Belgrano, a prominent figure in the Argentine War of Independence, and María Remedios del Valle, a heroine of the same conflict. The 20,000 peso bill's design has not yet been disclosed.

Purchasing Power and Dollar Equivalency

The introduction of these higher denominations is expected to enhance the purchasing power of Argentines and facilitate larger transactions. As of current exchange rates, 10,000 Argentine pesos is approximately equivalent to 52 US dollars, while 20,000 pesos is equivalent to 104 US dollars.

Gradual Implementation and Impact

The new banknotes will be gradually released into circulation throughout the year. The BCRA anticipates that this measure will help alleviate the inconvenience caused by large sums of lower-denomination bills and contribute to the efficiency of financial transactions in the country.
